VIDEOCASSETTE/DVD LENDING POLICY

(Albemarle Regional Library)

1. Borrowers must be 18 years of age or older and a registered patron of the Albemarle Regional Library System and in good standing.
2. Videocassettes/DVDs are rented for a period of 7 days. Patrons may rent a combination of videos/DVDs but are limited to a total of 6 titles per family/person/household. Multi-part videos are to be considered as 1 tape. 
3. Rental fee is $1.00 per title or any such fee as the Regional Board of Trustees may direct.
4. Videos/DVDs may be renewed if they are not on reserve, at an additional rental fee of $1.00 per title.
5. Videos/DVDs are subject to an overdue fine of 1.00 dollar per day per title or any such amount as the Regional Library Board of Trustees may direct. Maximum overdue fine shall not exceed $15.00 per title. (Multi-part videos shall be fined as one title).
6. Patrons are responsible for returning the videocassette/DVD in good condition and in the proper casing. In case of loss, theft, or damage, the patron will be charged the full replacement cost of the video/DVD, including a $2.00 charge for replacing the cassette case.
7. A .50 cents fee shall be charged for each tape not rewound.
8. Videos/DVDs can be returned at any library location, however, patrons should be aware that individual library hours of operations vary, so items returned in bookdrops may accrue overdue fees until the items are checked in. Materials returned in the book drop after closing on the date due are considered overdue.
9. Patrons are encouraged to return videos/DVDs to the circulation desk for check-in as they may become damaged in the bookdrop. If so, damages will be charged to the patron.
10. No rental fees will be charged for "Public Performance Videos". However, they are subject to overdue fines and replacement costs.
11. The library assumes no responsibility for damage caused to the borrower's recorder/player by a videocassette/DVD borrowed from the library.
12. Copyright law prohibits duplicating videos/DVDs or charging admission for viewing.
13. "Home Use" exemptions may be allowed in teaching activities at a non-profit educational institution.

NOTICE:  Some videocassettes may contain language/subject matter/ or brief nudity, which some individuals may find inappropriate for their personal or family viewing. It is the responsibility of the individual to determine what is appropriate viewing for themselves and their family. Please preview unfamiliar tapes before showing.
