Garysburg - Dr.
Martin Luther King Birthday Celebration -The Garysburg Family
Resource Center/Choanoke Area Development Association sponsors the Dr.
Martin Luther King Birthday Celebration that was started January 15, 2001.
The first annual Dr. Martin Luther King Birthday Celebration was held at Allen
Chapel A.M.E. Church in Jackson. This event will be held annually at various
host churches throughout the county. Location of the celebration for 2002 will

Conway - Bar-B-Que and Fried Chicken Dinner. The Conway-Severn Volunteer
Rescue Squad sponsors a Bar-B-Que and Fried Chicken Dinner on the
third Saturday in March to raise funds for the Rescue Squad. Contact: Becky

Seaboard - The Used Farm Equipment
Auction Sale is held the first Wednesday in March at the Lions Club
Headquarters Complex located on SR 1324, a mile north or Seaboard. Started by
the Seaboard Lions Club in 1962 by the late H.R. Howell, Jr., this event
brings buyers from all over the east coast. The activities include the auction
of used farm equipment donated by farmers and businesses nationwide, as well as
exhibits and lunch on the grounds, which might include delicious Bar-B-Que
prepared by members of the Lions Club. Proceeds from the events are used to help
support local organizations and charities in Seaboard and Northampton County.

Woodland - The Woodland Easter Parade is held annually on the Saturday before Easter Week in April. First organized in
1998, this event is sponsored by the Town of Woodland. For additional

Jackson - Memorial Day ceremonies- The Northampton County
Veterans Service Office sponsors ceremonies recognizing Memorial Day
(last Monday in May). Ceremonies feature guest speakers, local dignitaries, High
School JROTC as well as local veterans and representatives from local community
organizations. The program is held at the Courthouse Square Pavilion and begins

Jackson - Classics on the Green is held the
third Friday of June, July and August. Started in 2000 - Classic movies are
featured at the Courthouse Square Pavilion on a big screen TV. The movies begin
at 9 pm. Families sit under the stars on blankets or lawn chairs and enjoy
popcorn and soft drinks along with the show. Sponsored by Jackson Revitalization

Garysburg - The Mini Fun Camp was
first held in 1995 and is sponsored by the Garysburg Family Resource Center/Choanoke
Area Development Association. The camp is held annually for two weeks in
July-August. Arts and Crafts, Food and Nutrition Classes and Swimming/Water
Safety Instruction are offered. This activity is free of charge to children ages

Woodland - Shrimp Feast - held
annually. Started
in 1985 the Annual Shrimp Feast is
organized by the Woodland Fire Department and held on the third Saturday in July. The Shrimp Feast activities include a
meal of shrimp, corn on the cob, claw, beer and bottled water, and well as a
dance hosted by a DJ. T-shirts are available for sale on the premises. An

Garysburg - The Festival in the Park,
held in August, begins with a three-mile walk-a-thon starting at the Garysburg
Park. The rest of the festival features a variety of activities for young and
old, from the dunking pond to miniature football to the ring toss. Vendors are
encouraged to set up tables from which they sell an assortment of items such as
clothing and food. Vendors are also asked to set up grills and cookout. The
proceeds from the festival are used to help fund a variety of activities for
youth. The Garysburg Recreation Committee sponsors the annual event. For

Halloween Gala is
held October 31 at the Garysburg Community Center. The activities include
bobbing for apples; dancing, and awards are given for the best costumes. The Garysburg

Conway - The Annual Serendipity
Christmas Parade, first organized in 1994 is held the Saturday after

Conway - The Ho-Ho Christmas Craft Show featuring craftsmen from all over the state is held in conjunction with the
annual Christmas Parade on the Saturday after Thanksgiving. First held in 1991,

Garysburg - The Garysburg Christmas
Parade is held the second Saturday in December and is made up of entries
from surrounding towns and schools. They include cars driven by town officials,
fire trucks, floats, horses, marching bands and entries from various civic and
church groups. The parade route begins at Roosevelt Street and travels sound
along Highway 301, then turns up Highway 46 and ends at the Garysburg School.

Garysburg - A Christmas Caroling and
Hayride event is also held in December. Carolers ride around town in hay
filled wagons regaling local residents with Christmas songs. The ride finishes
up at the Town Hall where carolers enjoy hot chocolate and donuts. The Garysburg

Jackson - The Town of Jackson Grand
Illumination is held the first Friday in December. Started in 1992 the event
features the lighting of the community Christmas tree and is followed by the
illumination of the Main Street Christmas lights. Caroling, hot drinks and other
Christmas goodies are enjoyed by attendees of all ages. Sponsored by Jackson

Jackson - The
Jackson Christmas Parade, held annually on the
second Saturday in December is sponsored by the Jackson Woman's Club.
Parade participants include town officials' floats, bands, civic groups,

Rich Square - The Annual Rich Square
Christmas Parade, sponsored by the Rich Square Community Club will be
held in December. Types of entries that are
included in the parade are floats, marching bands, vehicles, animals and

Seaboard - The Seaboard
